Orienteering in Azores

Orienteering is an exciting and challenging adventure and nature sport that exercises the mind and body.

Orienteering is an individual sport whose objective is to follow a certain distance in different and unknown terrains, forcing the participant to go through certain points on the ground (checkpoints) as described in a map that is delivered to each competitor, helped by a compass.

The time you spent fulfilling the tasks depend on the physical skills of the participants, the ability to read the map and the orienteering speed using established techniques, as well as their ability to adapt to the terrain and the correct choice of routes.

The defined courses are different and the terrain feature changes: sand, fields, semi-dense forests, semi-rugged terrain, etc. The degree of difficulty is set according to the category of participants and to their age (usually between 10 and 80 years old).
