After being equipped and prepared for this challenge, we will begin the Canyoning Junior, where young adventurers will be the stars of Aventour this day.
The route chosen by us for this Canyoning with children is of very easy progression on a smooth water flow. Along the waterway there are many possible exits for those who feel tired or want to give up. We must always be aware that children come along and, sometimes, their mood can change.
Throughout the canyoning activity there is one Aventour Guide on a quad bike for any eventuality, providing support and security for the whole team.
We finish the Canyoning with a rappel of 10 m. It will be one of the highlights of the whole day for these young adventurers and parents as well.
Then, we will have a break to change clothes and for a snack.
Once warmed again it is time to move to paradise. We will go on by walking to the mythical Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, where our lunch awaits us. Before having lunch, we can still dive into the calm waters of the lagoon of this Fajã (you can taste the clams, it´s extra program).
After lunch, we will walk around the Fajã to learn about the history of the place and to be also able to enjoy its beauty.
In the afternoon we will visit the Cave of Poio, an underground cave with a fresh water lagoon inside. Here you will learn how to make a glass out of a leaf to taste the fresh water coming out from the bowels of the mountain.
We offer 2 options for leaving Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo: on foot or by boat:
Hiking -- it is a pedestrian trail of about 5km along the coast. It is 1 hour hiking approximately;
Boat - Our boat will be waiting for us at the exit of the cave. We will have to prepare ourselves for the exit by boat. Everyone has to leave by swimming, except for those who do not know how to swim and children. These will be transported in a support boat, along with our equipment. It is, undoubtedly, another highlight of this adventure. On the boat, we go along the north coast and we will pass between the islet of Topo and the most eastern end of the island of São Jorge. After, we will go on along the south coast of the island of São Jorge to Calheta, watching the Fajãs from the sea as well as the waterfalls, painting the slope of the island.
